Santiago Bookstore

Located in the charming medieval town of Óbidos, Santiago Bookshop has been around since 1732 and is one of the oldest bookshops in Portugal.

The bookshop was founded by João Fernandes de Sousa, who had previously worked as a bookseller at Lisbon’s Royal Library. His passion for books led him to open his own shop in Óbidos, where he soon became well known for selling rare and hard-to-find titles from all over Europe.

Today, Santiago Bookshop still offers its customers an impressive selection of books ranging from ancient manuscripts to modern bestsellers. The store also boasts an impressive collection of antique maps and prints that have been carefully preserved over the centuries. Visitors can browse through these works while admiring the building itself – which has remained largely unchanged since it opened more than two hundred years ago.

In addition to its vast selection of books and prints, Santiago Bookshop also offers visitors a unique shopping experience with its quaint atmosphere and friendly staff members who are always happy to help you find what you’re looking for or even recommend new titles based on your interests.
