Petit-Champlain

Located in the Lower Town, it is considered to be a hidden gem among tourists and locals alike. This quaint area offers stunning views of the St. Lawrence River, as well as some of the best shopping, dining and entertainment experiences in all of Canada.

The history behind Petit-Champlain dates back to 1608 when Samuel de Champlain founded Québec City on this very spot. As such, it has been an integral part of Quebec’s culture for centuries. The cobblestone streets are lined with old stone buildings that have stood since colonial times and offer a glimpse into what life was like during those days. Many merchants still operate out of these same structures today selling everything from handmade souvenirs to local delicacies like sugar pies or tourtière (a traditional meat pie).

In addition to its historic charm, Petit-Champlain also features many modern attractions including art galleries showcasing contemporary works by local artists, restaurants serving up exquisite French-Canadian cuisine, boutique shops offering unique apparel and accessories, plus plenty more. And don’t forget about Place Royale – a beautiful public square located at the heart of Petit-Champlain which provides visitors with breathtaking views overlooking both Old Port and Vieux-Québec (Old Quebec).

In recent years there have been various festivals held throughout Petit-Champlain such as Carnaval de Québec or Festival d’été de Québec which bring thousands upon thousands each year who come to celebrate music & art while enjoying all that this neighbourhood has to offer.
