Austerlitz square

The square has a long and fascinating history that dates back to its establishment in 1806 by Napoleon Bonaparte himself. It was named after his victory at the Battle of Austerlitz against Russia and Austria during the War of Third Coalition.

The square is known for its beautiful architecture, which features many classic French buildings such as the Palais du Rhin (the former imperial palace) and Place Kléber (a large public park). Additionally, it contains several important monuments dedicated to those who fought for France during World War I including a statue honouring General Charles de Gaulle.

Today, Austerlitz Square remains an important cultural centre within Strasbourg, where visitors can visit various museums including Musée des Beaux-Arts de Strasbourg or take part in activities such as shopping or dining at nearby restaurants. There are also regular events held throughout the year like concerts or festivals that provide entertainment for locals and tourists alike.
