The Central Market

Located in the heart of Valencia, it has been an integral part of life in the city since its opening in 1928 and remains one of Spain’s most iconic markets.

The market was designed by architect Francisco Mora Berenguer with a stunning Art Nouveau façade featuring intricate ironwork, stained-glass windows and ceramic tiles depicting scenes from Valencian folklore. Inside, you can find over 800 stalls selling fresh produce, seafood, meat, and poultry as well as traditional souvenirs such as fans and pottery. The variety on offer makes it easy to stock up on ingredients for a delicious homemade meal or pick up some unique gifts for friends back home.

On top of all this shopping goodness, there are also plenty of wonderful places to eat at the market too. There are dozens of tapas bars serving up local delicacies like paella valenciana (rice cooked with vegetables) or horchata (almond milk). Plus, there’s no shortage of cafés where you can enjoy coffee or freshly squeezed orange juice while people watching – something that locals love to do here.

What makes Valencia’s Central Market, so special is its atmosphere; it truly feels like stepping into another world away from the hustle and bustle outside.
